Clonmel is situated in a valley between Slievenamon, the Comeragh mountains and Galtee Mountains in South Tipperary. The Ideal location for Hillwalking, Fishing, Golf etc. Clonmel (from the Irish: Cluain Meala meaning "Honey Meadow" possibly referring to the fertile land of the area) is a town in the barony of Iffa and Offa East, South Tipperary in Ireland. It is administered by South Tipperary County Council and is that county's seat. While the borough had a population of 15482 in 2006, another 17008 people were in the rural hinterland. The town lies mainly on the northern bank of the River Suir with a smaller section south of the river. It lies in a valley, surrounded by mountains and hills. The Comeragh Mountains are to the south, while northeast of the town is Slievenamon. Comeragh House is a perfect base for enjoying Hillwalking these beautiful Mountains. There are numerous walking clubs in the region. Other activities in Clonmel include Horse Racing, Greyhound Racing and Fishing. Clonmel is the Gateway to Irelands South East.
